Celebration Bermuda

Consider Celebration Bermuda for your next sports, home or commercial project. It’s a highly versatile, fine-bladed turfgrass that is used for sports applications, commercial uses and home lawns with playful kids and energetic pets since it can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Let’s dive into what makes Celebration Bermuda different and the numerous advantages this grass type has over others.

What is Celebration Bermuda Grass?

Celebration Bermuda was originally developed in Australia and introduced to the US in 2001 as a fine-bladed, warm-season grass with a striking deep blue-green color. It’s a thick, high-density turf that has a soft texture and cushioned feel. Known to thrive in hot and humid climates, it grows well in the scorching heat of Texas summers and handles cold weather conditions easily. It’s extremely tolerant of drought conditions and can thrive in areas with limited water resources. It’s our most popular grass for home lawns, commercial, and erosion control projects with little rainfall or no irrigation because it needs very little water to stay healthy. What makes Celebration a popular choice for high-traffic areas is how resilient it is. It’s a great option for heavy-usage sports fields, sports turf, golf fairways and home lawns because it grows fast and recovers quickly. It’s also extremely disease and pest tolerant.

Celebration is less likely to experience fall brown patch, chinch bugs and sod webworms when compared to St. Augustine grasses. Celebration has some bermudagrass shade tolerance, but shouldn’t be confused as a good option for shady areas. It can tolerate 1/4 day of shade safely, but the more sun, the better! For best results, plant in wide open, full-sun spaces. Found in sports venues, golf course fairways, home lawns and much more, Celebration thrives in a variety of applications.

What makes Celebration Bermuda different?

These top five features make Celebration Bermudagrass stand out against the competition and should help you determine if it’s the right choice for your landscaping needs.

Heat and Drought Tolerance

This is an exceptional grass if you live where it’s hot and have low water resources. Celebration exhibits excellent heat tolerance and can endure extended periods of drought, making it very well-suited for the sweltering Texas summers. It grows well in the summer and goes dormant when it’s cold. This adaptability to extreme weather conditions makes it an ideal choice for homeowners looking to maintain a beautiful lawn with minimal water consumption.

Wear Tolerance & Easy Recovery

Celebration Bermuda is very resilient and can withstand a lot of wear and tear. It can be used in high-traffic areas since it bounces back easily. Don’t hesitate to host large gatherings, play with your pets, chase your kids, and enjoy regular usage with Celebration Bermuda. University research shows it recovers faster than other bermudagrasses from divots, which is why it’s in high demand for usage on golf courses. If you plan to use and play on your lawn regularly, this bermudagrass variety is a great choice.

Ideal For Wide Open Spaces

Celebration Bermuda is ideal for wide open spaces. It grows best in full sun, but can be used in partial shade with some success. Research and real-world applications have shown that Celebration will perform well with lower amounts of sunlight, but prefers full sun exposure. The more sun, the better!

Beautiful Aesthetic

This fine-bladed bermudagrass comes in a striking blue-green color. Celebration holds its color well throughout the season and has a very good spring green up. The fine leaf and soft, delicate texture make it comfortable to walk on. It quickly establishes itself due to its deep root structure and forms a dense turf, creating a carpet-like appearance that enhances the look of your space.

Disease and Pest Resistance

Celebration is highly resistant to common lawn diseases and pests. It doesn’t have the same issues that St. Augustine does, making it easier to maintain and take care of. You’ll rarely need to deal with gray leaf spot, brown patch, or decline virus with Celebration Bermuda. You should still apply insecticides for insect control, but Celebration is less likely to experience chinch bugs and sod webworms too.

FAQ's

Celebration Bermuda is not a hybrid turfgrass, but an improved variety turfgrass of common bermudagrass. An improved variety grass means there’s an area where the common bermuda is demonstrating noticeably better characteristics than the rest. This area is taken and then tested, researched and eventually mass produced if it continues to exhibit superior traits the researchers and developers are looking for.

No. Celebration Bermuda should be planted in full sun, wide open spaces like all bermuda’s. Celebration will tolerate up to 1/4 day of shade, but any more than that a Zoysia or St. Augustine should be considered because they have much higher shade tolerance.

No. There are no seeds for Celebration and the only way to grow it is by vegetative means, like turfgrass. Celebration Bermuda does produce seed heads in turf, but they’re sterile(do nothing).

Yes. Like all warm-season turfgrasses, Celebration will go dormant(brown) with the first hard freeze of the year. Dormancy is natural protection for warm-season grasses to survive winter.

To start, Tiftuf Bermuda is a hybrid Bermudagrass while Celebration Bermuda is an improved variety of Common Bermudagrass. Tiftuf has a slightly smaller blade(1.7mm) while Celebration has a little wider blade(2.8mm). While both bermuda’s have very good drought tolerance, Tiftuf will stay greener longer when compared to Celebration in the same drought conditions. Celebration does better versus Tiftuf in areas that won’t have irrigation or very limited irrigation. While neither grass is a good choice for shade, Tiftuf has more shade tolerance compared to Celebration. Lastly, Tiftuf is a dark green color while Celebration is a dark blue-green color.

Celebration Bermuda will spread 16 – 24 inches per year depending on how heavily it’s fertilized. Celebration is considered a durable and “invasive” type of grass because it grows by rhizomes and stolons. Stolons are tough runners that pop up on the surface of the soil. Rhizomes are stems that grow underground and shoot new roots downward into the soil. In simple terms this means Celebration has great staying power once established when compared to grasses that only spread by stolons, such as St. Augustine grasses.

If you’re keeping your mowing height at 2-3 inches a normal, rotary mower is fine. Just be sure to keep your blades extra sharp. If your mowing height is going to be below 2 inches a reel mower is a must.

Celebration does not have good weed control when compared to St. Augustine and Zoysia grasses. Timely pre-emergent herbicide applications with Barricade pre-emergent will ensure your Celebration lawn is weed free year around.

This place is awesome! I had an emergency project come up and within a day I received the materials and the crew knocked it out very fast. The attention to detail was not one that I expected when purchasing dirt and mulch, but they went above and beyond to make everything look perfect. I will be using them again and highly recommend them for any dirt/mulch needs.
