MOWING YOUR GRASS: WHEN, HOW, AND WHY

Before you consider mowing your sod, remember that new lawns take time. Give your lawn the time it needs to establish a root system before you mow your yard for the first time. Overall, this process takes 10-14 days after installing sod.

When the grass blades look healthy, it means the root system is established. Typically, you can tell its ready to mow when the blades of grass grow taller. When it comes to mowing your new lawn, mow frequently enough to ensure that no more than ⅓ of the blade is removed.

The height of mowing depends on the type of grass you install. Oftentimes, you don’t need to collect the grass clippings unless they might smother the yard. When you leave short clippings on the ground, it recycles nutrients back into the yard. In turn, you save on fertilizer costs. To learn more about mowing, refer to the types of grass or contact us!
