We suggest spraying insecticides in the evening when temperatures are cooler because it’s when sod webworms are most active, come out of their burrows, and are most vulnerable to liquid insecticides making good contact with them.
The lifecycle of the sob webworm is important to understand because depending on whether there are unhatched eggs in your lawn, you can’t fully eliminate the problem with just one treatment. Insecticides kill the sod webworms only, not the moths or the eggs. Since the insecticide just rolls off of the moths’ wings and doesn’t stick to kill them, they will continue to lay new eggs. It’s imperative to treat and kill the newly hatched eggs until the lifecycle is broken, which means insecticide treatment about three times in two to three weeks to completely break the cycle.
